Marriage in Lissan
« on: Saturday 05 July 14 20:06 BST (UK) »
From a Scottish Birth Certificate I have the information that Patrick O'Reilly and Mary Murray were married on 1st June 1884 at Lissan Catholic Church, Cookstown.

But I can't seem to find any record of this marriage? ???

Cany anyone help, please? ;D

Hi,
The marriage is listed on Emerald Ancestors but the husband is listed as Patrick Reilly.

Rootsireland also has the marriage. Groom was just Patrick Reilly. (The O’ prefix on Irish names is detachable).

Thank you, both!

I tried the new GRONI search and got nothing.
Also tried the Irish Genealogy site - and also got nothing!

I'm not used to Irish records, so I know there were some experts out there who would have no difficulty! ;D ;D

It doesn't seem to be in the Irish civil indexes. Possibly what the pay to view sites have is a copy of the church record.  If so, the information won't be as extensive as on the civil record.

You could contact GRONI with the details you have and ask them to search for it, in case it has been misfiled or overlooked in the indexing process, but the only other explanation seems to be that the marriage wasn’t notified to the civil registrar. That did happen from time to time.

If you do find a civil certificate you will only get the father’s names. Irish certs are like English ones and don’t have the mother’s name (even today).

I already have a reply from GRONI!

They can't find the marriage either! ::)

So, looks like I need to explore other options.
