Hi

There is a possible birth registration for Annie. It seems to have been indexed as

Marianne GRESHY, March Qtr 1862 Birkenhead Registration District, Vol 8a Page 479.

New Brighton was in the Birkenhead Registration District in 1862.

I know we all chipped in - but that Mary Annie Gresty baptism at St Peter,Liverpool sealed it for me ...already said it but that was a great find Andy ....I am more than happy with that baptism ...
Robgen must be very happy with the details found... ;)

Not much help but would point a few things out. Hoose is the old name for Hoylake. Holy Trinity church was demolished but the grave yard is still there.

New Brighton was founded by James Atherton and his son in law Rowson.  It was originally intended for the idle rich and large properties were built.  There was never any intention of turning it into a holiday resort, that just came along by accident.  The ferry was built which opened it up to the Liverpool residents.  To my knowledge Atherton never built the pier, i.e. the fun pier as opposed to the ferry.

As has been previously stated, New Brighton came under the township of Liscard.  I have never heard of it being associated with Birkenhead until all came under the auspices of Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council in the 1970's.
