Alan for future ref you can check the indexes yourself to see if anyone left a will.
You can then ask one of us for a look up  ;D

Yes he did Alan,it says that probate was granted to his wife- so he did leave a will.
Which you can buy for £10 from the Wills office at York.

The link I gave you at 12-43 will only give you the index to say that his name is on it.
Unless you subscribe to Ancestry you won't get all the info that I typed up for you.
Or that Sandy typed up about Sarah earlier this morning.

Oh I see thank you Carol . He probably just left it all to Sarah but I might just get it anyway . I guess I would have to upgrade my Ancestry or as you say write to the Wills office
Thanks again
Alan

The only place you can get a copy by post of the will is the wills office in York.

All Ancestry has is access to the indexes (with the same info that Sandy and I found for you earlier)

But what you can do without having to subscribe is to do a look up yourself to see if any of your family is mentioned,if they are not then they didn't leave a will or letters of administration.

Hi Carol , I have just been using that link you gave me and have 2 of mine I think .
William Henry Prout  1953 Exerer and Elizabeth Adelaide Prout 1954 Exeter .
I have been searching for what happened to my great gran Ellen Prout for years now the last we heard of her was in 1912 .
I have found 3 Ellen Prout's
1960 place unknown
1964   "         "
1943  Middlesex
I might be clutching at straws with Ellen  but would appreciate a look of these if you or your members are not too busy thanks
Regards
Alan
