Old banner turned into quilt.
« on: Thursday 18 September 14 20:15 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help with this. There are some dates and names on this. My daughter was given this as an heirloom from her husband's family. My daughter does not know what it is. Can anyone help?
Thanks

Hi, some info here on the men on the banner

Their campaign poster has the same pictures as your banner.

It's election memorabilia- Benjamin Harrison running for re-election as President of the United States for the 1892-1896 term (he lost).

One website states that since women in America weren't allowed to vote (until 1920), they could show their patriotism by making quilts.  Interesting.

Thanks. Lisa in California. Can you send me the website? Thanks. My daughter was wondering what they were for and who got one and why. So the women did this to show support? Was it just in some places? Did they buy this in stores etc. ?

The border of the quilt may represent the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.  Their symbol was three linked oval rings.
