Beaumont family tree
« on: Friday 02 August 13 15:35 BST (UK) »
Hello there,

Has anyone any info about the Beaumont/Beamont family from Haddington.
John Beamont, gardener from England. Born about 1774.  Had a son George, born about 1818, moved to Glasgow with his family.
I´m trying to find more about their time in Haddington, and who John´s wife was.

Thank you,   Eileen Mcnaught

Hi Eileen and Archie, My mother was Elizabeth Reynolds and her mother was Elizabeth Burnside who was born and married in Haddington. They migrated to Australia in 1949 and Margaret Murray Beamont is a greater grand mother. This information is interesting.

Hello Ron,

Thank you for the info you posted, but unfortunately none of them seem to be my Beaumonts.
The John Beamont I´m looking for is from England.  His son George moved with his wife Elizabeth Marr to Glasgow after she was put on trial for culpable homicide of a child in 1853. I´m still trying to find out what happened to her. She had a child in 1855 in Glasgow, so she was obviously not found guilty. There is no record of her trial.

Thanks again,   Eileen

Thanks Eileen, the Margaret Murray Beamont mentioned by Archie is my 2xGreat Grandmother! Did George (born 1818) have a brother called James? I hope to get into some research next week.

Hello Ron,

Unfortunately I don´t have much info about George Beaumont or his family before he moved to Glasgow.Have not found any siblings. They were  in the  1841 census in Haddington, also the father John, but not at the same address. In the 1851 census they were in Edinburgh, 1853 was Elizabeth´s indictment for culpable homicide, 1855 they were in Glasgow, and had a son Robert. They had 8 kids in all, but only 3 lived to adulthood.

Thanks again for your interest, I´d love to find more of the Beaumonts.

All the best,   Eileen

Thanks again, I have a relative in Scotland that I believe has done a family tree. There's a Beamont link but ill health has distanced the connection. I'll keep trying.

Thanks Ron,

You´re a gem.   I had hoped to make it to Scotland this year, but looks like I´ll have to put it off till next year instead - so frustrating. There is only so much you can do on the internet. Can´t wait to get into the Mitchell library in Glasgow, and the National Archives in Edinburgh.

Best wishes,  Eileen

I'm back researching and have discovered I have the wrong Beamont. Margaret Beamont became Margaret Gowans and Margaret Murray Beamont can't be my ancestor. Her son was Andrew Burnside (my Great Grandfather) and she may have married more than twice.
