Thank You both.
Just Catching up  and had wondered which of the 2 Sarah Jane's was the most likely. But I think you are correct Kay that we can discount Sarah Jane b 1850 to Fanny as I think that is the child's death you found.
Had found a marriage for a John Hodgson Robinson on 30 Oct  1869 to a Elizabeth Mavor born 1845  and think this could be Elizabeth Mavours shown on the 1861 census. Dates fit better but the spelling changes a lot to get to Mavis?
Will go and try and find Sarah Jane's birth now. Will be interesting to see what comes back on the Marriage cert of Sarah Jane Mavis and John Dixon. Certainly proving very interesting  .

I suppose the changes in the surname are all in the way you pronounce it  ;D

Hello
I have a strange feeling about were this  search is taking me. Have yet to Find Saran Jane's  Birth in 1860  Kay that you mentioned but I think Elizabeth on the 1861 census  may be the sister to Fanny and the Earlier Family I mentioned( see earlier posts). Was updating my tree and there is another tree  July2011Arbor that also has a John Hodgson Robinson marrying a Elizabeth Mavours---could have the wrong links but it takes us Back to Charles  and Elizabeth.
Could that be possible?

Many Thanks for all the help. Just by way of update.
John Dixon b 1859 marries on 3/11/1879 at Carlisle Sarah Jane Mavis/Mavor/Mavours. Both list Rigg Street Carlisle as their address .His father is a William Dixon a Chimney Sweep . Alas did not really  solve were John was born--see earlier posts--cant really link it to the records I have found on line.
His wife Sarah Jane Mavis She is the illegitimate daughter ( see earlier posts) of a Elizabeth Mavor 1842-1925-----who I think but can not prove is the daughter of Charles Mavor who dies 1867 and his wife Elizabeth Major 1798-1852.
On the 1861 census he is no longer in the family home but is lodging which might go some way to explaining why she is listed as a pauper. Mavis/Mavor not that common a name in the area and the dates and location fit but I appreciate I may be wrong. But their marriage cert is correct and other records fit.
Again thanks for all folks did--would not have solved this otherwise.
