Tanglewood Jigsaw Puzzle Club
« on: Sunday 13 September 09 10:12 BST (UK) »
An elderly relative has given me some wooden jigsaw puzzles.  These are in bags and each bag has printed on it "Tanglewood Jigsaw Club" and info about the puzzle and the name "Mrs Barclay, Oakham, Rutland"  the name of the road she lived in is crossed out.  I am told that these puzzles date from the 1930s.

Has anyone any information about this puzzle club and/or Mrs Barclay.  Any sort of info would be very gratefully received.

Hi there,
Not a lot is known about these jigsaws other than Mrs Barclay was probably the president of the club and was also the cutter.
There are two types of jigsaw "push fit" and "interlocking", the push fit type being the oldest.
They were never sold in boxes only bags with no picture to help and only a description on the side of the bag with the number of pieces and size of the puzzle.
They date circa 1930 to about 1960 and are classed as vintage jigsaws.
Being an avid jigsaw enthusiast these are some of the most difficult and interesting to do.
To this end would you consider selling them?
Please post a reply.
Very kind regards,
Robabob
