Hi Robert ( Bob) O'Carroll was my grandfather. He lived in Sherard Street, Annamoe Drive and his last address, our family home Carnlough road Cabra West. He was a tailor by trade. His wife Mary ( O'Brien) died in 1965 and he himself died aged 85 on 1st July 1977. He was interned in Frongoch prison after the Easter rising, where he fought in the Four Courts of Dublin, returning to Ireland in August 1916. He lost his job because of his internment and emigrated to Glasgow where he worked as a labourer for 5 months.
He rejoined the volunteers in August 1918 and fought throughout the War of Independence, he was on the Anti-Treaty side and was appointed Battalion Intelligence Officer in 1922. he was interned again in 1923 for 3 months
He was buried with full military honours on 1st July 1977
He had 7 kids: Robert, Frank, Edward, Rosanna(Rose), Thomas, Michael, Mary ( May) (my mum)..They have all now passed away.
