Williams, 'The Abbey', Kidwelly
« on: Tuesday 07 September 10 15:59 BST (UK) »
Please can anyone offer details re the house of William Williams [died 1854]. He is in Lady Street in Censuses of 1841 and 1851, but elsewhere is said to be of 'The Abbey' or 'Abbey House'.  What or where is this house - is it still there? Did he leave a Will, or did his wife - nee Mary Ann Humberstone Jones - leave a Will when she died in 1865? ???
All help welcomed ~ Phil

Hello

There isn't a will in 1854 for William Williams of Kidwelly on the National Library of Wales index, which includes all pre-1858 Welsh wills for that area.

Slater's Directory of 1868 mentions the Abbey House, Kidwelly.
The Misses Vaughan were living at the Abbey House then

Thank you, Morganllan, for your observations about Kidwelly.  I knew there was no Will on the NLW record, but there might be at PCC - I shall have to check that, but Williams is a tough nut to crack.  Also as he died in Texas [probably on a trading trip] he might have left no Will.
The Misses Vaughan you found were the sisters of my namesake, Philip Vaughan, who married the daughter of Wm Williams in 1845; they lived in Abbey House for years - but where was it and is it still there?
