Farquher/Faragher/Fargher ??
« on: Monday 29 November 04 15:30 GMT (UK) »
Hi All

You may have noticed that I have just "reached" the Isle of Man!! ;) ;)

I have just received a copy marriage certificate on which a witness is Edward Farquher - I have another relative in this group Isabella Faragher, who I think is the daughter of Richd Fargher.

I presume these are all the same family - just different spellings?

Can anyone try to "sound" the name for me?

Being from Cheshire - I'm a bit slow at pronunciation ;D

Cheers
Keith

It may be that they are pronounced Farrar or Far-er.
Southern or Southan [Hereford , Monmouthshire & Glos], Jenkins, Meredith and Morgan [Monmouthshire and Glos.], Murrill, Damary, Damry, Ray, Lawrence [all Middx. & London], Nethway from Kenn or Yatton. Also Riley and Lyons in South Africa and Riley from St. Helena.

I have a MARGARET ELIZABETH FARAGHER who married JOHN HAMPTON -1813- Douglas Lonan Isle of Man.
Their son James b.1814 married ELEANOR LOONEY at St Barnabas Douglas Isle of Man 1843.
James and Eleanor's daughter MARGARET ANN b.1844 married WILLIAM FARAGHER.
The family name that I decend from is HAMPTON.
I believe that it was quite common for them to marry cousins.
I will be interested to know if this links up with your side in any way.

Hi Tim,

Most of my Faragher seems to have been born around Rushen/Patrick area.

If you have a look at my website you will find my line:- http://batemans-history.rootschat.net

I have added a few others all from IGI into my personal software - but some of these are just educated guesses.
Phillip Faragher b Nov 9th 1760 Patrick - son of Thomas
Thomas Faragher b 1717 Patrick son of Jon

My last definite is Richard b Patrick Nov 22 1801 - son of Phillip and Elenor Quirk who married May 9th 1789 in Patrick.

Hope some of these are in your tree.

Have a look at the "McBurnie" page on my site - there is an explanation on how to pronounce the name taken from Manx Radio!

Cheers

Keith

They brought up their children William Tyson Burrows, Kathleen, Henry Fargher Burrows at Ballagilley farm on the Ronaldsway estate. These Farghers were tenants of a neighbouring farm,as were the rest of William's family

Hi oddmo,

I hope you have visited my website ^^^^^ and seen the Faraghers on there - I have not got much further on this line as my 2x great grandmother was in Cumberland by 1851 - and therefore I no nothing of what happened to the rest left on the Isle of Man.

Do you know who Catherine's parents were?

Cheers

Keith
