BMD certificates

Having now acquired a large collection of BDM certificates, I have suddenly noticed that they all have a black ink tick starting at the bottom of the right hand corner of the box moving up and right, to the very edge of the page. There is no variation in this, so I suppose it has a function. Any clues what it is?

I always thought it was so nothing could be added,like a name change,in case of fraud.Isn't that where it would be noted if a name was changed or one added?

Well, it's certainly a possibility, but there is room underneath and on the left of the box for added info, or indeed inside. So I'm not persuaded. But still intrigued....
