Information requested re research site - Archives.com
« on: Sunday 20 July 14 12:54 BST (UK) »
Hi, I have U.S relatives from  the past that I would like to learn more about and  a friend has just pointed me in the direction of a research site called Archives.com which is for U.S Records/Research.

Are there any Archives.com users out there who could give me an idea of how easy the site is to use  and any other useful information about it please?

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Barbara.

P.S. Or would this request be better placed on the United States of America board.. :-\

Hi Barbara

I've moved your topic to our US board as the board you posted on doesn't allow replies.

Hi Barbara,

Have you tries https://familysearch.org/ which is a free site and has a good selection of US Census and other records. If you would like to share the name of your ancestor and a few details there are plenty of volunteers here that would help you.  ;)

If you search for a specific name on archives.com, I think a lot of the results that they claim to have for death certificates are from the Social Security Death Index, which is free from familysearch.org.  I would recommend checking http://www.deathindexes.com/sites.html to see what is available online as far as vital records & other records for the area that you're looking in and see what you can get without subscribing to anything unnecessarily.

The following link has newspapers from quite a few states; unfortunately, they only cover up to 1922:

Hi all, thank you all very much for your advice and helpful web links.

For Sandra,
I looked at the links you kindly gave me and after reading the content I don't think really that the site would give me any of the info I need.

Unfortunately,I do not have access to USA records so I'm taking your advice to share the details here on Rootschat of the relatives in the USA that I've been struggling to find information on.

Maybe someone on Rootschat with access to USA records may be able to help.

I will open a new post on this board giving details of my relatives and what information that I'm trying to obtain.

I will be placing my new post shortly so please look out for it.

Thank you all again.

Barbara.
