As far as WW1 goes, the cause of death is irrelevant if the person was serving at the time of death.

For service personnel to qualify after they had been discharged, the cause of death had to be as a result of, attributable to, or in the case of diseases such as TB, aggravated by, that service.

I think the guy Imber found is a good call albeit inconclusive at present
the lad in original post was previously wounded was he discharged? anything on MIC that mentions SWB or list or disch?

Maybe a DC would give his former army number?

If its a post discharge death and its attributable to war service then its possible to apply to CWGC to see if he can be added to debt of honour as a non -commemorated soldier.

Private W Tipping (Bellshill) 42324, Machine Gun Corps[/b]"

Service numbers are unique. Aren't they??
