 I'm hoping someone can help with this please ,photo of prisoners of ww1 held at hammeburg barvaria the man with white trousers on is  private henry j carter.
6 company welsh gaurds and I am thinking that the number 7893 0n  back of photo is  his reg no
but I can't seem to find anything on him :-\

Looking the writing on the reverse of the photo, I cannot see any reference to 'Guards' and think the unit was '2 Welsh Regiment' - a different body altogether, and 2 here means 2nd Battalion.

The corporal is wearing the cutaway tunic worn by kilted regiments.

He is not in the Welsh Guards Roll of Service.

I suggest  James Carter 7893 of Welsh Regiment

He is not in the Red Cross PoW data to this number.

7893 Pte. James Carter was in the 2nd. Batt. Welsh Regt.
He received the Mons Star for entry on the 13/8/1914 + BW & Victory Medals.

Ancestry.
James was a regular soldier & was previously in the 1st. Batt.
Transferring to the 2nd. he became part of 3rd. Brigade 1st. Div.
He fought at Mons which was the first battle fought by the BEF.
Whether he was captured there I can't say but the British were outnumbered & out gunned & were forced to retreat.
