Dennis Merryweather in Australia
« on: Wednesday 30 July 14 19:53 BST (UK) »
Trying to trace a former Whitby Town Football (Soccer) player who moved to Australia in the 1950.

This is what I know so far:

Quote
Dennis Merryweather
born 1st November 1922
SS New Australia (Shaw-Savill Line), departed 20th April 1955
Bound for Australia.
Country of intended future residence – Australia
Dennis Merryweather was bound for Victoria but seemed to have landed at Freemantle.
He seems to appear on the Electoral Rolls in Victoria up to 1980 but neither he or his wife appear in the Australian Death Index nor on the Victoria BMD website.

Then I found this:

Quote
Creditors, next-of-kin or others having claims
in respect of the estate of the late MR DENNIS
MERRYWEATHER, late of The Bays Nursing
Home, 4 Victoria Street, Hastings, in the State of
Victoria, deceased, who died on 25 September
2007, are to send particulars of their claims
to the executrix, care of the undermentioned
solicitors, by 20 February 2008, after which date
the executrix will distribute the assets, having
regard only to the claims of which she then has
notice.
FEATHERBY’S, solicitors,
1043a Point Nepean Road, Rosebud 3939

Can anyone help me find out if the deceased is the same Dennis Merryweather please?

Also if he played for any clubs in Australia?

Dennis Merryweather was bound for Victoria but seemed to have landed at Freemantle.

He may have been listed as landing in Freemantle as Freemantle may have been the first port of call in Australia. He may then have continued on to Victoria.

Electoral Roll 1963, the first time I see his registration to vote.

1963, 1968
Address
148 Station St. Alphington. Vic.
MERRYWEATHER Dennis , clerk
MERRYWEATHER, a female, H duties
MERRYWEATHER, another male, florist.

1972 1977 1980 (1980 last available listing for him.)
Address 54 Mincha Ave. Lower Templestowe.
MERRYWEATHER, Dennis, clerk
MERRYWEATHER, a female, H duties
MERRYWEATHER, another male, florist. (This occ changes to 'agent' in later listings)

One had to be 21 to vote until 1973 in Australia so if the other male in the household was a son, his birth would need to be at least 21 years prior to 1963.

He may have been listed as landing in Freemantle as Freemantle may have been the first port of call in Australia. He may then have continued on to Victoria.

The records are for immigrants both disembarking and passing through the Port of Fremantle.  It is mentioned on NAA website.

Dennis was cremated at Springvale - born 1922
