Monaghan RC Records - Coming on line
« on: Sunday 27 March 11 19:07 BST (UK) »
This notice regarding an update to the Digitisation project at Irish Genealogy http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/index.html appeared in a number of places last week.

"Thank you for your enquiry

The current position in relation to the addition of new records is:

Cork- Work has just been completed on the remaining records from Cork &
Ross Roman Catholic records except for further records from Cork City which
have been completed by Cork County Library.

Dublin - Work is ongoing in completing the remaining Dublin City Roman
Catholic records, a completion date of May 2011 is now likely for these.

Monaghan- Work is ongoing for a set of Roman Catholic records for the
county.  These are due for completion in the next few weeks.

Overall-  No firm date has been set for the addition of further records
yet, but we will provide a further update on the website soon.  Apologies
for the delay in the addition of this extra data to the website."

NB. The Irish Genealogy site hasn't been updated yet

Drogheda, Co Louth - Magee/McGee
Dublin City - Brady, Magee/McGee, McNally, Sheridan, Taylor
Mitchelstown, Co Cork - Hyland, Martin, Russell
Ballyporeen, Co Tipperary - Russell

The Irish Family History Foundation's Online Research Service (ORS) is pleased to announce the availability of the first *32,000 baptism records for County Monaghan*. These records cover the parishes of:
Carrickmacross    Donaghmoyne    Drummully-Currin
Ematris              Errigal Truagh    Inishkeen
Magheross          Monaghan        Tydavnet

See our source list for more information
http://monaghan.rootsireland.ie/generic.php?filename=sources.tpl&selectedMenu=sources
Further birth, death and marriage records for Co. Monaghan will follow soon.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Interesting that it's happening at the same time as this:

Wonder if there's any connection.  Have records just been made available or something like that?

Ah, but what religion?  They don't say!

Strange thing is they both list Carrickmacross and Magheross when Carrickmacross is a Catholic parish within the civil parish of Magheross and Magheross would normally refer to the C of I parish.

Yes, was wondering about a couple of them too.

These records cover the parishes of:
Carrickmacross    Donaghmoyne    Drummully-Currin
Ematris              Errigal Truagh    Inishkeen
Magheross          Monaghan        Tydavnet

rather than

These records cover the R.C. parishes of:
Carrickmacross    Donaghmoyne    Drummully-Currin
Ematris              Errigal Truagh    Inishkeen
Magheross          Monaghan        Tydavnet

or the availability of the first *32,000 R.C. baptism records for County Monaghan*.

As a stand-alone post it does look confusing as Religion isn't mentioned

but having since read http://monaghan.rootsireland.ie/generic.php?filename=sources.tpl&selectedMenu=sources it clears it up.

In view of the fact that RootsIreland/IFHF have now uploaded some of the Co Monaghan records and Irish Genealogy announced 3 weeks ago that they are also doing the same; I wonder, is there now competition between these two organisations over the uploading of this county's Parish Records?

Or is there something that we don't know?
