Death registration, Ontario 1874
« on: Sunday 06 August 06 15:30 BST (UK) »
I've received some great help in the past months for some of my other family, and finally found some information for a couple I know next to nothing about. It was only their death dates from tombstones - one from 1864 and the other 1874. Might someone be able to have a look and see if they can find a death registration for:

Phidelia (Phydelia) PETTIT, died September 1874 in Westminster, Middlesex Co., Ontario. She was buried in Scottsville cemetery.

I am really hoping that this could be found and hopefully tell me ANYTHING about her or her late husband.

Many thanks!

Raymond

Hi RWL,

I don't see Phydelia's death registration yet.  Civil registration only started in 1869, so compliance was nowhere near 100% by 1874.   :-\

I did find this marriage registration of John and Phydelia's son David:

Groom: David Pettit
Birth Place: Walsingham Township (Norfolk Co.)
Residence at marriage: Middleton Township (Norfolk Co.)
Age: 33
Father: John Pettit
Mother: Phidelia Pettit

Bride: Hannah Osborn
Birth Place: Hamilton (Wentworth Co.)
Residence at marriage: Townsend Township (Norfolk Co.)
Age: 23
Father: Benj Osborn
Mother:L Sarah Osborn

Married 20 Oct 1867 in Norfolk Co. (no more specific place given)

MJP,

Thanks for having a look for me anyway. That marriage is at least another piece for me...hopefully something will pop up to tell me where they were born and what her maiden name was.

Thanks again!

Raymond

Hi Raymond,

You might try searching the 1851 census. It has recently been put on-line at the National Archives.  It has not been indexed yet though, so it's a bit of a trawl.  But it looks like you might find them in Norfolk County.  David would be 17 years old.  Here is the site:

http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/1851/index-e.html

Once you get to the page with the images on it, you only need to look at the "a" pages, those are the ones with the names.  The b, c, and d pages just give more details once you have found the right names.

Good luck!

Could this be the same couple N.Y. in 1860?

Just read through the bible entries...Son John born 1807...son David born in 1834?... big age difference in siblings!!! Not that it couldn't happen as I've seen 30 years of difference...Perhaps you can find some information on the U.S. immigratipn board for a marriage cert for John and Permelia Hoppin in 1839?
