Hi there,

the name Partridge is fairly rare in Longford (only 14 on the 1901 census - pretty much all in Ardagh)

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0n30/

But there is also another spelling on the surname ie PATRIDGE (only another 7 on the 1901 census though)

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0n31/

Did you get Bridget's details from rootsireland ?

This site below has a lot of old Patridge marriages on it but no Pa(r)tridge / McDonald ones ???

http://www.igp-web.com/longford/ardmar_opq.htm

There is one Patrick Partridge on Griffiths Valuation for 1857

http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/longford/shrule.htm

Some other Partridge's on this GV

http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/longford/ardagh.htm

If you just google 'Partridge Longford' a lot will come up on this family and they still seem to be in the area

I am presuimg that your Patrick was born about 1810 and I found this one death

Patrick Patridge
Longford
Jan - Mar 1882 (age 72)
volume 3 page 167

BUT it's also possible that he died before 1864 when registration began.

There are no matches for Mary that I can see so it looks like she may have died before 1864 when registration began OR it may not have been registered which is fairly common for that time.

Tara

Sorry,

I have just noticed that you have said that Bridget was an orphan when she emmigrated.

As this was most likely in her youth and before 1864 when civil registration began it will be very hard to track down anything :(

Thank you Tara, and Jack.. I do wonder how the Longford prison boys fit in..  :) I found the griffiths valuation 1857 interesting.. On the immigrant list for Tipoo Saib 1850 it lists Bridget Partridge (17) as being from Tierlachan, Longford. A mis spelling of Tirlickeen perhaps? I now wonder if this is my Patrick Partridge whom died 1882..  All very interesting, Thank you

Hi there

Yes I would defo say it's a mistransription and that the Patridge's in Tirlickeen are the people that you are looking for.

There appears to be just one family of them left on the 1901 census

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Longford/Ballymahon/Tirlickeen/1547301/

If Bridget was an orphan when emmigrating though the Patrick who died in 1882 couldn't be her father but may be related somehow.
