Civil registration of births started in 1864, so you would need to check for parish records for possible baptisms of Mary and Patrick. You usually need to know a more detailed location to do this - ideally the names of the towns, townlands or at least the parishes they lived in. You also need to know what denomination these families were.

My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?

Where did Patrick and Mary marry, do you have a marriage cert ?

Marriage Certs in most counties will show at least father's names, and some location mother's names will also be included...

looks like that marriage took place in Ireland, as there's a child named Richard born in Nov. 1873 in Co. Longford to Patrick and Mary in the extracted births on FamilySearch.

see : https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F5JQ-VNP

A research cert would give a more details, such as place of birth (probably the name of the townland they lived), father's occupation etc

This would appear to be the correct marriage - in Longford registration district.

  Name: Mary Stritch
  Event type: Marriage
  Year: 1873
  Registration district : Longford
  Volume : 3 / Page: 268

A matching entry appears for a Patrick Farrell..

A research cert would give additional details, including names of fathers, current residences for the bride and groom etc

see : Ordering Certs from GRO Roscommon
Details included on a Birth Cert
Details included on a Marriage Cert
