PS. Tara. I take it that Catherine 'Kate' Canterbury is now a doubtful candidate as David's wife if she died in Arklow in 1916 and described as a spinster?

No that Kate is most likely John Canterburys sister or Catherines Aunt

hmmm wonder are we talking about the same guy as some of the articles in the newspapers say
David Murphy recently returned from America on his 1868 arrest now this could have been a ruse to stop his house getting turned over for incriminating evidence.
Then again there is nothing to say he was'nt in America prior to 1867 or 1865.

Dathai. For info. Years ago I had contact with an elderly lady (sort of third cousin and now dead) - in Limerick who gave me info on my Cummins folk. It was she who made me aware of David Murphy and his connection to that family. She had mentioned John Daly, a Mr Gleeson and Aemon Clarke all being associates of Davids. An Aemon Dore was also mentioned and that they all met up at times in a Bakery in William Street, Limerick to have meetings. She also understood that Eamon De Valera was known to them and involved. The flute I mentioned went missing from a house in Garryowen, Limerick and she had said that it had many names (some of above men?) inscribed on it.

Hiya

Just to reiterate : The Kate Canterbury that died in 1916 is related in some way to the Kate that married David ie NOT the same person.

Re the American mention : Dathai do you remember WAY back my talking to you re  a Dublin Flood family whom were involved in the Fenian movement.

The late 1860's saw a lot of the Fenians going to mainland Britain and to America to fundraise for the Cause.

The Flood family most certainly did !

Given David's accountancy background and involvement with The Irishman would most certainly ADD to him going to American and back NOT discount him.

Hi Tony

Well, this is certainly a VERY interesting sidebar.

Given though that you have mentioned that David shared the same mother as your ancestor means that he IS blood and in my book that warrants fully following up and yes that means buying certs to prove all this information that myself and Dathai are passing your way.

IF indeed he IS one and the same chap I think an approximate of €15 spent would make a most fabulous addition to your tree.

I would recommend €10 spent on the Glasnevin burial record first.

This would give you David's burial / death and ALL other people in the same grave PLUS scans on the burial images. I have gotten HUGE amounts of extra information from these, ie address', wife's burial / death, possible children in the same plot, possible children registering the burial.

After that, depending on the burial finds, I would purchase the marriage cert to tie up all loose ends.

All in all not a totally prohibitive amount of money.

Hum, this genealogy business warrants DEEP pockets  ;D ::) ;D

Just in case you are not aware Tony.

Most Fenians had aliases which can make things tricky but don't discount other names that you may come across.
