The 1901 Census

I think it says SOM  ie Somerset  and English which is the language he spoke whereas the rest states both ie English and Welsh.

on the 1861 Census where you already have some details eg Daniel Alexander Grandson,   on the same page there is

Elizabeth Alexander  Head W  75                            b Morriston
Thomas        "            son    U  34   Collier               b Ystradgynlais
Elizabeth Williams     gran dau  6                                        "
David           "            Head   M  45   Collier                b Bedwelty
Anne            "            Wife    M  50                             b Bettws  Camarthenshire
Thomas        "            son          17                             b Ystradgynlais

Not sure if that is going to help or confuse you.

Hi pompey welsh

Just catching up with developments.
I can't believe that the woman in the Ystrad office said that Alexander was not a common name in the area.  I know five families in Ystrad with the surname.
I shall have to ask them if they know anything about the family history.
By the way I was speaking to Bill in Crynant today and he sends his best wishes.

Hi pompey welsh,

I'v been doing some digging in the area and found someone who believes they are descended from the Alexander family of Ynysforch in Crynant.
She is now going to gather some information together and get back to me.

Hi Rhian,

Just to let you know that one of the Alexander families locally is still checking out details. They are hoping to get back to me by the middle of next week with names and dates.
