I had a similar problem locating my relatives.John Watt and his brother Duncan Grant Watt. Both died in the Great War,and according to the CWGC were buried at Tomnahurich, giving plot/grave numbers, along with what turns out to be a "generic" picture of military gravestones. This fooled me and I spent hours searching for these. They are in fact buried in a family grave at the top of the hill, not far from the Cameron Highlanders memorial.I found the "office" to be quite helpful.Unfortunately no longer have the 'phone number.
Good luck!
Nigel Hirst

It sounds very much as though your John and Duncan Grant Watt are the same men as those of those names who are also in my family tree!

Thanks for your prompt reply, Nigel.
My family graves are scattered all over Tomnahurich.
If you have a photo of the "grand headstone right at the top of the hill" I'd love to get a copy. Is there some way for me to get one?
Was the Mary married to your John, Mary GORDON?
Was the Alexander, buried at Rosskeen, married to Alice Connor?
Could you please send any details you have about the above two men?
And the details of your connection with the NSW and Cambewarra folk?
Jock.

I have photographed most of the war graves in Tomnahurich so if your ones are war graves then I might have a picture.  Less likely if it is just a family commemoration for someone buried elsewhere though I often take a picture if they catch my eye.

Give me the names and I will check otherwise I can take one next time up there if it is easy to find (if no one else nearer to Inverness can get one).

Hi guys,

I was hoping one of you who has photos of the gravestones might be able to help me with one for Brigadier-General D. A. (Duncan Alwyn) MacFarlane, D.S.O.
According to his funeral notice Col. Haig attended the funeral. He spent the majority of his service with the Kings Own Scottish Borderers 1888-1909 serving in Sierra Leone, Nile, Chitral Relief Force, Tirah campaign, South Africa (Vet River, Zand River & Zillikat's Nek).
He died 10 April 1941 and is buried in Tomnahurich Cemetery.
Thanks
Macfarlane, Arrochar, Callander

Do you know whether there is any intention to photograph the Polish war graves at Tomnahurich? I would have thought that at some future date someone would find these helpful?

I have now found all the war graves at Tomnahurich and photographed them all - as well as all others in mainland Inverness-shire and the Small Isles - I have been promised pictures of two on the island in Glen Shiel later this year).
