Church Gresley Marriage
« on: Wednesday 23 July 14 22:36 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I wondered if anyone has access to the Church Gresley registers, who could do a look-up for me, please?  I am interested in any details associated with the following marriage:

1777 Oct 13th John Dennis married Catherine Astbury.

Thank you for any help.
Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,

The South Derbyshire BDM Website has the following info regarding the marriage in question:

St George & St Mary's Church, Church Gresley

19th October 1777 (as opposed to 13th Oct)

Catharine Astbury to John Dennis by Banns

Both of this parish (ie the parish of Church Gresley)

Both made their marks, an X

Married by the Curate Thomas Mould

The witnesses were John Wyatt (X) & John Daws

Here is a link to the website itself: http://www.southderbyshirebdm.co.uk/home.html

There are links at the top of the page for Baptisms, Marriages & Burials.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

David

My goodness, that was fast, David!  Thank you so much for this information, and thank you for directing me to this excellent site.  I'd been looking at Brett Payne's transcriptions for South Derbyshire, but his marriages for Church Gresley don't start until 1783.  This is going to be a big help.
Thanks again,
Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,

Your very welcome! ;D

I use the site myself as I have a lot of ancestry in that area.

They are always adding new records, so always worth checking the site every so often.

Kind regards

David
