Hi there,
could not see how to contact you directly, however my elderly mother in law wants to lay flowers on her family grave in the church yard which has a wall onto Macduff castle Wemyss? I have tried to search on-line for burial but cannot find anything at all... Since we live in Hampshire and were supposed to be coming to Scotland this summer just for her to do this. I wondered if you could shed some light on a burial - she tells us that the local miners paid for a headstone? the name is: Roderick Paterson died circa 1947 + 2/3 yrs? As my mother in law has the onset of dementia it is very difficult to get information from her, but she does say that there are a few family members in the grave, could also be a Sophie (wife died circa 1934 in childbirth)? + others?? If you could give me some information that would be wonderful. thank you

Hi , welcome to RootsChat  :)

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ has a death for a Roderick Paterson 1948 , Buckhaven Fife , born c1880.
Buckhaven is in the Parish of Wemyss , I think.

Also a death for a Sophia Paterson 1934 , Buckhaven Fife , born c1905.

Could they be the persons you are looking for ?

Hi Yes there is a headstone from the local miners, which states
339.   In memory of Roderick Paterson d. 19.7.1948 aged 68y a token of esteem from fellow workers at Wellesley Colliery
there is no mention of any other family members, but there is a number of other PATERSON

Wow thank you so much, do you know if this headstone is still there, and which cemetery is it in, and could you tell me where it is?
Are there any burials for:
Sophie Paterson - the 1905 birth - died 1934?
Or an Ann/Anne Paterson - this would have been the mother of Roderick
or a Sandy? Paterson.
Thank you very kindly
Dawn

Hi Dawn
It was there 3years ago but I will visit and find exact location, it is in the older of the 2 cemeteries.
Sophie Paterson - the 1905 birth - died 1934?
what was Sophies maiden name ? Roderick would have been 25 years older than Sophie
do you know if Roderick had been married before?
Who were Rodericks Parents ?

Hi Norrie,
I cannot thank you enough for your assistance, Sophie Paterson - nee Watson and yes she was apparently much younger than Roderick, she died giving birth to her 2nd child? Jean Paterson. (deceased aged 59)her first child was my mother in law Rhoda Hobbs, nee Paterson.
I know that Roderick had other children, 1 - Alex Paterson.(deceased aged 59)  I do not know if Roderick ever married Alex's mother? but was told she died.

I believe that Rodericks' parents were  -
Alex R Paterson
Ann Paterson - found this family on the 1881 census in Glasgow, when Roderick was 1 yr old.
I know that Roderick had a sister, Barbara there was also another brother there was also a mention of the surname macintosh - perhaps linked to Rodericks mother.
Hope that all makes sense.
Again thank you so very much.
Kindest Regards
Dawn

Hi Dawn these directions should get you there
Drive through the gates to the newer part of East Wemyss Cemetery
thats the McDuffs castle end.
then proceeded by car  through the opening into the older part of cemetery
after about 20 meters take the road to the right, after 40 meters stop
on the left hand side you will see a white stone to George RUSHFORD
slightly to the right and 4 levels behind is Rodericks stone lying flat
to the ground next to a stone for Christina Clark & William McIntosh
note a McIntosh
I know that Roderick had a sister, Barbara there was also another brother there was also a mention of the surname macintosh - perhaps linked to Rodericks mother.
