RC Churches and Graveyards around Hawkfield, Newbridge, Co. Kildare
« on: Wednesday 14 May 14 19:07 BST (UK) »
My great grandfather, William Boland, owned a farm in Hawkfield, Newbridge, Co. Kildare.  William died in 1953.  Does anyone know what Roman Catholic parish includes this area and what graveyards are in this area?  I'm hoping this will help me find more information about my great grandmother, Bridget Boland (nee Byrne), who died around 1909.

Not 100% sure but I think it's Newbridge Parish, it's a very large parish.

I'll try and do some more checking

I can see a Hawkfield death on that Newbridge Parish site.

I'm having a look at graveyards in the area.
Newbridge has a big one, there is one in Caragh which might be a bit far away.
There is also one in Barretstown all these are still in use.
There is a closed one in Pollardstown which isn't far from Hawkfield.

You'll find a list of all Kildare graveyards here http://kildare.co/Kildare-Graveyards-by-Parish.asp

Hi

If you look on Google Maps Hawkfield appears to be between Newbridge and Milltown, so Milltown graveyard is also a possibility.

I was wondering though how much info you have already as I had a quick look and having (I think) found the correct family on the 1901 and 1911 census it appears that Bridget had 4 children in Dublin between the years 1900 and 1908 and so must have died between 1908 and 1911, as she does not appear on the 1911 census and William is listed as a Widower.  Could she have died and been buried in Dublin?

Regards

There is also a marriage record for Bridget Byrne marrying William Boland, Q4 1899, Naas v2 p785

A possible match to your GGrandparents, if you don't already have it.

The second listing for Morristownbiller is the correct family.  I found this listing in my search, but not these documents.  Thank you so much!  These give me more and better information to work with for Irish records.  My grandmother never talked about their farm or her time in Ireland.  After her mother died - she and her sister were raised in a convent school - though both were devout Roman Catholics their whole lives, I don't think their experiences were pleasant.  It's been very interesting trying to piece together her history.  I thought it was Hawkfield because U.S. immigration records show her last permanent address in Ireland with William Boland in Hawkfield, Newbridge, Co. Kildare.
