Obtaining a Irish Will
« on: Sunday 10 August 14 05:46 BST (UK) »
This seems to me to be very complicated but the question is could I obtain a copy of the will or would it have been destroyed in 1922  If not destroyed how do I go about getting it?   Irish wills  Francis Cottrell 23 May 1866 Letters of administration etc to Stephen Halloran Cottrell one of the Residuary legatees,  Francis died 15 Mar 1819 Cork ,Former Grant Diocesan Court of Cork Cloyne and Ross 23 Nov 1834.  As an aside the effects were under One pound!!

If the probate file still exists, it’s likely to be held by National Archives in Dublin. You can e-mail them and check whether they have it (there are fees for copying it if they do). However most pre 1900 probate files were destroyed in the 1922 fire. Just the abstracts survived (they were kept elsewhere). Note that in this case there will be no will anyway. He died intestate (“administration”). So what you can expect in the probate file (if it still exists) is Stephen Cottrell’s oath detailing his relationship to the deceased (if any), plus any eligible next of kin the deceased had, plus a form listing the contents of the estate. No will because he didn’t leave one.

Hi densavage
If you go into National Archives Ireland (nai.ie) and enter the genealogy
link there you will find Calendar of Wills. Here you will find  an image of Francis
 Cottrell's details.
