Hi Lyn ...

Try this website - http://www.makeright.com/hanborough/index.htm.  It includes a good history of the village.  (N.B. I have the Handborough PRs if it's of any interest!)

Hi Pennie,

Thank you so much for that link, I will now be able to add information to where my ancestors came from. :D

What are PR's?

Hi Lyn ...

PRs = parish registers/records.  I have baptisms/marriages/burials covering the period 1560/1860 for Handborough.

I lot of my maternal ancestors come from this village - see my website at www.pennys-past.co.uk!

Hello Penny

I was wondering if you have any information on the MacVitie family from Handborough?

My gr-gr-gr-grandfather was baptised 23/12/1803 - Edmund MacVitie. I believe his parents are William Macvitie and Lucy Weller who married in the villiage 7/3/1798.

Any further info you have would be great.
Thanks
Claire

Hi Claire ...

The MacVITIEs first appear in Handborough in 1746.  Your baptism information for Edmund MacVITIE (spelt McVITTIE on the PRs) is correct.

Here is William and Lucy's marriage entry:

07 MAR 1798 - William McVITIE b. to Lucy WELLER by Licence (Witnesses: Sarah SMITH and John WELLER)

And this looks like Lucy's baptism:

21 FEB 1799 - Lucy WELLER, d. Jasper and Mary

Hope this helps!

Sorry, Claire - just spotted the "deliberate mistake" (!) on my previous message.  The date of Lucy's baptism should read:  21 FEB 1779.

Having a "senior moment" - apologies for any confusion!

Hi Pennie - I have only just seen your messages of last year re Handborough - I am searching my ancestors from Handborough - have traced back to Richard Weller b.1746 married to Mary Horn both of Handborough - are you able to let me know if there are any records prior to 1746 for the Weller's ?

Would appreciate any help.

Hi Destiny ...

I had a look at the Handborough PRs index - the WELLERs have obviously lived in the village for many years!

Going backwards from 1746, there are 47 baptisms (to 1589), 23 burials (to 1602) and 8 marriages (to 1621).

Unfortunately, I can't copy/paste information - so can you give me some idea of what you're looking for?

Alternatively, you may think it worthwhile buying the CD-rom (which also includes 11 other parishes in the area) and is available from the OFHS - for about £17, I think.
