This CD contains information on every Parish Church in the historic County of Dorset. Over 300 churches are photographed, in most cases inside as well as out. There are also brief histories of each church, plus any interesting points about the building and its surroundings    etc. etc

Yes, my CD is the S&DFHS one. You can find full details and how to purchase at www.sdfhs.org/Pubs.htm

The Society is actively recording Monumental Inscriptions, but, like everyone else, have been refused permission to visit the churchyard at More Crichel. When I was working on the Dorset Churches CD I made an 'official' approach on behalf of the Society, and was told no-one would get permission. A bit of a selfish attitude, considering at one time it was a parish church, and so people's ancestors must be buried there; several 'ordinary' folk would probably have a headstone.

The Dorset Record Office holds the following:

Microfilm: Christenings 1664 - 1792 and 1813 - 1945; Marriages 1664 - 1958; Banns 1824 - 1947; Burials 1664 - 1792 and  1813 - 1888
Transcripts: Marriages 1664 - 1836

There is an index to Christenings 1813 - 1837 and Burials 1813 - 1888; the Incumbent has the Registers for 1620 - 1643.

Incidentally, the 'official' spelling seems to be MOOR (rather than MORE).

Alan

Hi Lydart
Most major reference libraries should have a set of the volumes available, or be able to locate one for you. Check their online catalogues to see what they have in stock.
Best wishes

Hi Lydart, I have just found some of my PRINCE ancestors from Moor Crichel and am wondering if we have a connection there?

Hello TPrinceAU  (does that mean you are in Australia ?)

Yes, I have a few Princes in my tree; my earliest one is around 1725-30, in Moor Crichel.   Apart from names I don't know much about them, as I need at some point to go to the Dorset RO to investigate further.

If you add another post, I think we can then use the PM system (or it might be three posts Crichel Princes ?).

What is you connection to Moor Crichel Princes ?
