Marriage probably in Dorset of William Burns and Mary
« on: Monday 21 July 14 10:18 BST (UK) »
Could someone please lookup Dorset marriage records  and see if a William Burns born 1791 in Cork, Ireland, married a Mary, born 1801 in Poole, Dorset. Their first child (Ann) was born in 1821 in Hurst, Hampshire. He was a boatman in the Preventive boat service. Thank you.

It is a possibility. In 1817 he was appointed to the Hurst Castle Preventive Station, and then in 1820 he was promoted to commissioned boatman.

Hi pannyanny.
The marriage I posted earlier took place on the 19th June 1819 at Stoke Damerel Devon, which is close to Plymouth.
Regards Dave.

To be sure of Marys maiden name you really need a Childs Birth Cert.
(just realised Scottish Reg of Births started later than 1837)

It may be that Mary is a second Wife as unless some Children died or left Home there is a gap in ages on 1841/1851 Census;

1841 Census
Kinneff and Catterline, Kincardineshire
William Burns    50
Mary Burns    40
Anne Burns    20
William Burns    12
Thomas Burns    9
Henry Burns 7
Eliza Burns 4
Margaret Burns    2

1851 Census
Stonehaven, Kincardineshire
William Brome    60
Mary Brome    50
Anne Brome    27
Henry Brome    17
Eliza Brome    14
Margaret M Brome 11
Jane M Brome    9
Helen Brome    5

Christenings, Kinneff and Catterline;
BURNS, Parents WILLIAM/MARY;
WILLIAM Burns, 4 July 1829
THOMAS BRINTON Burne, 15 Sept 1831
HENRY Burne, 4 March 1834
ELIZA BRENTON Burne, April 1837
MARGARET MARY Burns, 12 May 1839
JANE MARIA Burne, 22 Nov 1841
HELEN Burns, 9 Nov 1845
