Hi Tom

You MAY get a father on an OPR marriage - but it is not very common. Sometimes you get the bride's father. At least you now have the confirmation of the generation to 1755 which is farther back than I have some of my lines. If your family did stary in Tranent, you may well get back some more generations.

Good luck

Trish

Things have moved on since last night!  The records were extracted from the films of the OPR, so I felt happy with posting the information.

I would imagine that many OPRs only record baptisms so the index was set up to record just those.  There would be no space to record the additional information of the birth date in the index where that is also recorded in the register.

Hello all,

I am new to the forum so allow me to take the time to Hello. My name is Gina and Tom the Archibald Buchanan you speak of happens to be my 6th great grandfather.

In my records I have what appears to be date of births for Jean and Archibald (children of Archibald and Isobel).

I was curious to know if you have obtained any other information?

Thank you,
Gina

Hey Tom,

Unfortunately I have not been able to go any further than Archibald and Isobel. However, I do have dates if you want to discuss them further. If you are on facebook you can find me there. You and I can personally message each other there and exchange information.
