Printing census pages from Ancestry.co.uk
« on: Friday 21 December 12 20:25 GMT (UK) »
When viewing a census record on screen via Ancestry.co can someone kindly tell me how to print it off to fit A4 paper size?
In the past I could do it but they changed their system and I can't now seem to grasp what I have to do.  The image is approx 160mm x 105mm no matter what I do.

I usually save it as 'Mary Smith Census 1941' and then print from the saved image.   Also, if the image has masses of black round the edges, I edit that out .... saves ink, and I'm mean, and ink costs !

Lydart,

Thank you for your tip but it didn't work too well for me.

Surely there must be a simple way to print the on screen image full A4 size, as you could before!

Unless it's a 1911 census page, you'll almost certainly need to edit it as Lydart suggested, because you won't be able to get rid of all the black surround otherwise.  Crop off all the black, and then print, and in your printer settings make sure that the paper size is A4, and set the printer to "Fit to page" (make sure page orientation is landscape).

Nick/Lydart,

Again thank you for your input.
Have spoken with person at Ancestry.co who, not sure if alternative available, suggested your 'save' option (using 'Save' tab at top right of on screen image - then Save to computer).  Subsequent print OK

Agrees my point it should perhaps be simpler and logged for 'possible' future development.

Again my thanks.

Best wishes

If you are on Win 7 use the snipping tools to grab the image

It is under all programmes-accessories-snipping tool a small window will open click on new and draw a box round the area you want, leaving  out the black bits

Hi Emjaybee & Lydart,

Pardon my ignorance but I've never heard of the 'snipping tool' nor can I find it under 'all programmes' (I have W7).
What I do have is something called PIF (Print Image Framer).  Software that came with my Epson printer I think, but have never used it.  Is this it, or similar?

Subsequently did search of 'programs and files' and found it. I guess I will need to experiment.
