« on: Tuesday 04 March 14 10:56 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can provide any sponsor names for the following baptisms that took place in Kendal between 1781 and 1792?

William Coulton 1/4/1781
Sarah/Sally Coulton 8/2/1784
George Coulton 26/8/1787
John Coulton  22/4/1792

Parents for first child are John Coulton and Ann (?), and the other children have John Coulton and Jane (Burton?) as their parents.

Many thanks in advance if anyone can help!

Hello Stephen,

If by sponsors you mean godparents then Anglican Baptism Registers did not include these names until fairly recent times (unlike RC registers where they are usually given).  I think you also need to remember that in a busy parish like Kendal with many baptisms, mistakes could easily arise when the clergymen filled in the registers - I'm thinking of parents' names in particular.  You could be looking at the same family for all the baptisms?
But you won't find the names of godparents.
