Daniel Cotter b.1823
« on: Friday 19 June 09 11:27 BST (UK) »
Hi There, I'm new here and I'm trying to find out more about Ellen Cotter (c1828) and her brother Daniel, (c1823), who came over to the UK, from Cork, sometime before 1850.
They eventually settled in Southwark, London, where Daniel married Elizabeth. They had 4 children; Ellen(1859), Ann(1865), Margaret/Mary(1867) and Daniel(1869), who was my great great Grandfather. He married May and they had another Daniel(1892-1916), who died at the Somme. This Daniel married Emily Harrison and they had Dorothy and George, my Grandad.

I'm desperate for more info on the Cork origins of the Cotter branch of the family.

Forgot to mention, I have found a family of Cotter's including lots of Ellen's and Daniels living in ballingeary/inchigeela on the partial 1821 Irish census. This is my only clue as to possible whereabouts so far.

My ancestors Ann Cronin and Cornelius Cotter married in March 1839 in Inchigeelah Parish.  They had at least 3 children--Cornelius (my ancestor), Jeremiah, and a daughter whose name I don't know.  Cornelius emigrated to Scotland, Jeremiah to the US, and the daughter stayed in Ireland.  They might have resided in Gortnacarriga and Ballybawn or Ballybane.
