Hi Purplekat,
I think that's a good possibility and it makes me think that Martha if not her sister Hannah had been living in Scotland for the 22 years. Something else for me to look into maybe :)
Thank you

Hi Nerys

I suspect that the explanation for the 22 years is that Thomas married his first wife in 1889.It might of course depend on who in the household actually filled in the census form.

I cannot see any Martha Williams in the 1891 Scotland census of the correct age but there is a Martha showing in the 1891 England Census b 1859 Abergele, Denbighshire working as a housekeeper for Robert F Miln a bookkeeper b Dundee and residing in Hoylake, Cheshire. Could that be her?

Hi William,
That is indeed my Martha from Abergele. I didn't even think to look on the England Census so I have learnt a lesson today :), that was probably why she moved up to Scotland if her Employer was from Dundee.
Thank you

Hi Nerys

I was born in Edinburgh and know that part of the city well. I was interested in the fact that William McKinley died in St Raphaels House. I am sure I have heard the name but did not know anything about it and so did a google search. There is some very interesting information about it. It was apparently set up in 1919 by the Red Cross to attend to highly disabled servicemen and was run by nuns. William presumably was in the First World War. I cannot, however, see a service record for him.

Hi William,
William's death certificate notes that he was a Footman and Army Pensioner (I think - writing not too clear) I thought it was a hospital, I'll have another look and see if I can find army records.
