Robert Baillie family Kilwinning.
« on: Friday 12 September 14 23:39 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find marriage or birth details for a Robert Baillie, weaver from Kilwinning Ayrshire.
I find him in the 1861 census, Paisley as follows.
Robert Baillie, head, 47, harness weaver.
Janet, wife, 46.
Robert, son, 24, harness weaver.
James, son, 17, cotton winder.
Helen, dau, 13, thread winder.
Hugh, son 10, scholar.
all born Kilwinning Ayrshire.
I have looked in Scotland People for marriage but ages don't match.

His death cert will give you his parents names and mothers maiden name.  It will also show Janet's maiden name which may help in any search for his marriage.

Hi Jimbo13 and Carole

The marriage for Robert Baillie and Janet (Ramsay I think from online trees) would have been in before the start of official registration from 1855 and likely the mid 1830s going by the age of their children. The record for this would have been a simple entry in a parish register, and would not have included their ages etc.

Best bet to try and confirm Robert's details would be his death cert. as Carole mentioned. Janet Ramsay still alive and living with son Hugh in 1891?

Hugh Baillie 40 Boiler Maker, b. Kilwinning
Elizabeth Baillie 42
Janet Baillie 16
Robert Baillie 13
Elizabeth Baillie 11
Mary Baillie 9
Hugh Baillie 7
John Baillie 5
Janet Baillie 77 mother b. Kilwinning
Address: 20 University St, Glasgow/Anderston

Can't easily see Robert and Janet in 1871 but likely marriage of youngest son Hugh in 1873 to Elizabeth Coats https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XT13-SMT would let you confirm whether father Robert showed as alive or deceased at that time.
