Stoop, is this a really old place name? The only references I am seeing are from the 18th C from general google searches (not many coming up). One, www.tasmaniacs.net/lello/ppl/b/4/b46bea213da733fc3ef.html, potentially shows it in Lochmaben. Others, like this http://home.iprimus.com.au/bobdalrymple/mundell/KirkRecords.htm make no mention of parish in Dumfriesshire.

Can't see a reference to Carthwood in Mouswald, Harrywrag, from just a general google search  :-\ The only possible parish was the Lochmaben one I found.

Just thought to check on google books, and I think it might be in Lochmaben from further references there,

Hi Monica  :)

I think that Harry might have been referring to a reference to  the Mouswald Kirk Session records - there is an entry there for an Agnes Mundel, 1743. Place is listed as Carthwood:

Well, I've looked at a number of old maps on the Nat Lib of Scotland site but can't find it at the moment (going pop eyed!)

The nearest are the various Carthat<xyz> places on the Mouswald/Lochmaben border but in Lochmaben parish.

Hi csc, first of all I have been communicating with my cousin on a number of occasions. It illustrates the value of rootschat when one is helped being put in touch with someone you last saw in the 1970s. Next regarding the Kerrs of Carthwood I am trying to form a link between them and James KERR Martha Moffat.James was born 1718 the two Kerrs of Carthwood were born a year before and a year later, could they have been brothers?. Regards stoop.
