"Bodfish family"
« on: Sunday 02 March 14 14:33 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace a family called "Bodfish".  I have managed to find a marriage of Sarah Bodfish
to a William Bigg on the 12th October 1729 at Letchworth but cannot find any "Bodfish" family before that date.  I think that possibly Sarah was born at Hitchin about 1708 but cannot find a baptism for her.  This surname has given me hours of negative searching - is this family from Hertfordshire?  Any help regarding this family will be very much appreciated.  Many thanks.

hi
just by doing a general search for Bodfish I found these 3 parish births before your date
1/ john bodfish  bpt 24 june 1686  place baldock  [ in register he,s described as , a stranger ?!!]
2/ lucretia bodfish  bpt 13 oct 1704  father Thomas mother lucretia place hitchin
3/ Thomas bodfish bpt 11 aug 1706 father Thomas mother lucretia  place hitchin
only 7 births shown 4 in herts
in parish deaths out of 170 shown there are 37 in warks - 11 in kent - 9 in herts - 1 in sussex - 1 in staffs - 1 in durham - 1 in beds - 1 in glocs and the rest in northants .
that must say something I suppose !!.

Hi Trevor,
Pleased to hear from you - since using Rootschat today I too have done a little more research and I can agree with you that the "Bodfish" family are pretty well spread. I think that I have found the baptism of Sarah on 9th June 1709 at Hitchin under the name of "Badfish" (I suppose an O could be mistaken for an A) when the parish registers were transcribed.  Many thanks for your help.
