Just in case you have not thought of this -

Check on the deaths of the children - one might have an obituary that reads:

arrived with parents on the "ship'sname" in year

Clutching at straws

Hello,

Thanks for the  idea, will do and see  what I come up with ,also I got the death printout of Margaret, which states that she died at the age of 26yrs  and that she  had been in NZ for 24 yrs, which makes it around 1861/2, as she was born in 1859 Scotland, which leaves the eldest daughter Agnes King died in 1935 and is buried at Balcairn, Canterbury.
The other daughter Janet Snellgrove died in 1934 and is buried at Marton,  North Island.

Thanks

Perhaps it could be worthwhile to contact the "Canterbury Pilgrims & Early Settlers Association Inc."?

Perhaps try Kowai Archives Society. (I want to put an "h" in Kowai). ;D

kowai.archives at gmail.com

I have met one member and he was a walking encyclopaedia. They may be able to help with Agnes King. There must be a story attached to her because of being widowed for so long.

Is there any suspicion that they came via Australia?

Looked at "Oxford the First 100 Years" by O A Gillespie and George Curle  gets a sentence as a manager at Carlton.

Another bright idea - send an email to Ask at Librarian in Christchurch and ask for
1. Is George Curle listed in the Macdonald Dictionary of Biographies - if Yes then you will need to email Canterbury Museum.

2. There are several books about Oxford - see if they will look at the indexes for  George Curle - if they say No, please advise and I will look the next time I am at Allen Street, Christchurch (the current site for history and genealogy and research at Christchurch Libraries).

Regards
Jean
