Birth Record for James White

Trying to trace birth of my Great Grandfather James White who according to Census Records was born in Birkenhead. I have searched BMD but can only find 2 records for that year, both in Liverpool. Could he have been registered in Liverpool?
Any ideas would be gratefully received

What year are we talking?
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Hi

If you are taking his birth year from census information then keep in mind that the censuses were taken late March to early April so most births were actually in the preceding year ie a 6yo in 1851 census would most likely be born in 1844. Birkenhead was in the Wirral Registration District at that time and whilst there are no births in 1844 or 1845 there are a couple in 1843. Was his age a constant in each census?
