Aww Many thanks Carol.  My mum was engaged to Eric.  4 months before they were due to be married. Eric took his final trip with Bowater's. Eric's body was never recovered and my mum never came to terms with losing him.   :)

awe, so sad for her... The body was recovered Sept 17,1959  ...I'll p.m you the small details from the papers...

My mum lost her fiance WW2. He stuck his pencil behind his ear and said I'm off, and that he wondered if they should discuss marriage since he may not return....he didn't.
My dad named their first son after him in his honour which was pretty cool of him.

Thanks for the kind words Carol, I am persistent but there are many Canada board helpers a heck of a lot smarter than I  ;D

Hi

I realise you already have a newspaper report but I found a small report from the local paper (Birkenhead News) from July 1959 when Eric was lost overboard. Copies of the newspaper are held on microfilm at Birkenhead library.
There isn't much more information but the article does have a very feint photograph - the quality of the photo isn't very good.
If you would like to see it I'm happy to send it on to you.

Hope this helps
