Carcur House, Wexford- COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 15 March 06 21:49 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know where Carcur House in Wexford would be?  It was my GGrandfather Martin Huggard's house - he was a solicitor with offices in Dublin and Wexford - I've looked for a townland called Carcur to no avail - I need to know a more exact address to look up the census for 1901 and 1911. Any info at all would be great!

Jaylay :)

Hi,
This site: http://www.wexford.ie/Services/Notices/protectedstructures.htm
makes reference to Carcur House,Spawell Rd., Townparks, Wexford - so I suppose that's where it is/ was.
good luck

Hi Jaylay,
It better had be, the link given by Heywood was giving it protected status, although in these days it doesnt always mean much. We too easily rip out the past in search of progress.  :(

Cheers
Tony

Hi Jaylay
Got something but not what i hoped for you  :(
Found Carcur House but couldn't get a picture, best i could do was the gate ??? ???

The black bit of the left post says Carcur and on the right says house, but even then on only close inspection.
The house is set well back behind the trees and could only see the chimneys, the wall on the right extends about a 100 metres, and to the left about 20 metres. The gate has security access buttons, so didn't fancy climbing over in case any of Martin Huggard's dogs have descendants in the area ;)
But the place certainly has/or had an air of importance.
Hope this helps a little bit, at least you know it's there.

Don't know how this works but had to downsize the pic for this thread, if you want the full pic send me a PM.

Best wishes,

Hi zdl
Not sure what info you are looking for - Carcur House was My Great Grandfathers house - Martin Huggard.  He had thirteen children.  Not sure who the house was sold to after his death, but his widow Catherine Isobel continued to live there for a little while afterwards.  What sort of research are you doing - have you any more info on Huggards?
