Where are the Poor Law records....

for Cambuslang and Rutherglen? Are they still held in the Mitchell Library in Glasgow ?

I need to have a wee look at them

Would imagine so.  The archives have now moved to the 5th floor in the Mitchell along with the Genealogy Centre

It might be worth giving the Mitchell a call .... Lanarkshire "reclaimed" a lot of their records and although they are indexed at the Mitchell the actual records are not held there.

Indeed, Falkyrn. Spoke to someone a few years ago, when everything was in transit and not really clear what was going to end up where and the timing for this all.

Cambuslang and Rutherglen are both in South Lanarkshire, so the records are in the Mitchell Library.  The Poor Law records for North Lanarkshire are in the Heritage Centre in Motherwell.

Thanks all - now kicking myself as was at the SP part of Mitchell last week on a trip home. I should have just nipped through to the other side of the baffle board. Never mind! I'd some recollection that they'd moved all the Lanarkshire stuff (except Glasgow) elsewhere.

My mum will be getting another visit soon!
