Hi all,
I am helping my godmother with her family history & we are unable to find her ancestor John Abbney in either the 1841 or 1851 Census.
John Abbney (1783-1861) was a Tailor by trade & married Mary Miller (1779-1857) on 14th September 1809 in Cardington Bedfordshire & they had 5 children who were:
Sarah (1811-1869) Never married.
William (1814-1891) Never married.
Thomas (1815-1891) Married Ann Peers in 1840.
George (1818-1892) Married Elizabeth Hulatt in 1844.
Joseph (1819/20-1900) Never married.
In 1841 (HO107/9/3/5/4) Mary Abbney is with children Sarah, William, George & Joseph in Cardington, Bedfordshire. Thomas is with wife Ann (HO107/9/3/15/24) also in Cardington. However, there is absolutely no sign of John at all!
In 1851 John is again missing, as is wife Mary & children Sarah, William & Joseph. Thomas (HO107/1752/265/25) is with wife Ann & three children in Cardington. Son George (HO107/1752/300/18) is with wife Elizabeth, a child & a servant in Fenlake, Bedfordshire. But no sign of the rest of the family!
John Abbney was buried in Cardington on 20th January 1861 aged 78 & Mary was buried in Cardington 10th December 1857 aged 78.
The Abbney's have variously been mis-transcribed as Abney/Abbny/Albney & Abbury.
John Abbney was born in Cardington, but where Mary was born, we don't yet know as the 1841 just shows her as being born out of county.
Can anyone help find John in 1841 & John, Mary & the three children in 1851?
Many thanks in advance.
Kind regards
David
