Joseph Allton b. abt 1790
« on: Sunday 30 November 14 19:17 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Working backwards in time (as you do), I have a Joseph Allton b. abt 1790.  Census records for 1851, 1861 and 1871 (he died in 1874) are consistent with this dob, and his place of birth as Ansley, Warwickshire. In 1841 his dob is "out", but that's normal for that census, and it just says he was born "in County".

The Ansley baptism register for that time is on Ancestry and I've been through it for a couple of years before and after 1790, but have failed to find a Joseph Allton.  There are a couple of other Allton baptisms round that time, but not a Joseph.  When I was first starting out on this family history lark someone sent me some stuff they'd done on the family and that shows Joseph as the son of James Allton and Elizabeth nee Mousley, but I can't work out how they arrived at that, and Ancestry isn't throwing up any hints for any other likely Joseph Allton b. around that time for anything from their Warwickshire PRs.

I have his marriage (to Jane Sabin in 1825 in Mancetter) and their children, etc, but it's further back than Joseph himself I'm having trouble with.

Does anyone have any ideas where else I might look, pls?

Thanks

Hi

There is a baptism on Anc*, in the records for Warwickshire, Ansley and looks like Alton to me.

22nd August 1791 Joseph son of James and Elizabeth ALTON. The record is transcribed as ALTOM.
Can be found in the records 1750-1812 and is on image 38.
