Brick wall......
« on: Thursday 26 June 14 10:05 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have ROBERT COX in their tree?  Robert was born about 1801 and the family think he was born in Barbados.  In 1841, however, he was in Toxteth Park with his wife Margaret (Holland) and a brood of kids.  He says his occupation is "mariner" and that he is not born in England.  Unfortunately by 1851 his wife is now his widow.

This is about all the info I have on Robert and would love to find out where he was born and his parents if possible.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers

He says his occupation is "mariner" and that he is not born in England.

It actually states N for Not born in County which in this case mean Lancashire.  The column for wether born Scotland, Ireland or Foreign Parts has not been used.

There is a Robert Cox born 1802 in Bashington, Yorks who was an Able Seaman in the Royal Navy, he was discharged from the Navy in 1829 in Barbados, maybe that's your link to the Caribbean.

Robert Cox married Margaret Holland in August 1822 in Liverpool
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NKJ2-JZH

so on 1841 census there could have been children who had moved out by then ??
Mary Anne Cox bap 7th aug 1825 - Robert Cox /Margaret - Watkinson Street - a Mariner
Robert Cox bap 20th nov 1825  .all below have same parents names and address and occ
John Cox - states born Watkinson Street ,Liverpool
Mary Ann Cox - both bapt 30th aug 1828  - Watkinson Street
William Cox 27th july 1830
James Cox 13th jan 1835
Margaret Ann Cox 2nd jan 1837 - ALL St Peters ,Liverpool .....then we have
Charles Henry Cox  25th sept 1842 - St James - Robert Cox / Margaret ...so was he another brother or is this a different family ??...had they moved house ?  the only way of knowing is if he is with them in 1851 census
added...he is a mariner on his marriage record ...I think he was a Merchant Seaman - because it doesn`t state Royal Navy
http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Search/indexp.html
Marriage: 12 Aug 1822 St Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Robert Cox - (X), Mariner, this Parish
Margaret Holland - (X), Spinster, this Parish
    Witness: Wm. Warlow; William Lennox
Married by Banns by: W. Horner, Offg. Minr.

also - Charles Henry Cox is NOT on the baptisms on Lan -opc ...so doesn`t look to be a sibling

Yes - 1851 was his death.  Charles Henry is his son.  I put country instead of county - doh!

It's more his birth that I'm interested in.  How do I go about finding births in Barbados?

Cheers
