Has anyone here seen KELLY? Peter & Elizabeth
« on: Saturday 15 March 14 00:04 GMT (UK) »
Not sure if this is the best place to post as they could be anywhere.  Mods feel free to move if there is a more appropriate place.

I'm looking for Peter & Elizabeth (nee McLoughlin) Kelly.

Married in Dublin in 1859 and had four children there up to 1870.  The last child died soon after birth and was buried at Glasnevin, but the others don't seem to be listed there.

So surviving children after 1870 seem to be Rachel <1860>, Anna <1862> and William <1864>.

There is a possible sighting in Tighe Street in 1878, but after that I can find no trace of them anywhere (searched irishgenealogy.ie, FindMyPast worldwide and Ancestry (UK & Ireland)).

Can anyone else find them?

Have you seen this bit of confusion.
on the births and baptisms 1620 to 1881 you have a female born Dublin North on the 11 Sep 1870 to Peter and Elizabeth.
on Irish Genealogy you have Peter of 161 Capel St born 11 Sep 1870 being baptised.

Hi Dathai,

It could be a transcription error as I haven't yet seen the register entry for this child, or, as he did not survive, it could be that the child had problems that made it difficult for anyone to know.  I may need to get a research copy for that one as I don't know the father's occupation, making it more difficult to trace him.

Even more likely is that, if he was registered with no name, he was born in hospital and was registered as one of a possibly large batch of children, and someone got confused.

My problem is that, other than the parents as possible witnesses at a marriage in 1878, there don't seem to be any further records of this family.

Baby Peter was buried at Glasnevin but I can't find any evidence of the rest of the family there before 1911, but also can't find them in the census, either in Ireland or elsewhere.  One problem is that the children would likely have left home by 1901.

The Glasnevin Trust burials often give occupation of father.

Unfortunately not that early, as I only remembered after I'd purchased the grave details.

Lots of unnamed Kellys registered in 1870.  I think I need to go for William Henry, to get a birth registration, next time that I'm in Dublin.

Hi Dudley,

Have you checked the Irish government's free churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie website because the scanned copy of the original birth register is there for the baptism in St. Mary's pro-Cathedral (on Marlborough St., Dublin 1) of Peter Kelly to Peter Kelly and Elizabeth McLoughlin living at 161 Capel St (which is in Dublin 1).  Priest Fr. O'Reilly and only one sponsor Ellen Mulrooney.

PS Baby Peter was born 11 Sept 1870 and baptized on 14th Sept 1870.

Hi McShane1,

that's where the information on this family originally came from (see my first message above).

I haven't previously attempted to find civil registrations as this is a side-branch (first-cousins, 4 times removed), but can't find any later references to them.

Wondering did they emigrate? If so, where to?
