Family Photograph taken in the British Colony of India
« on: Wednesday 23 July 14 10:31 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I need some help to identify the year that this photograph was taken, and the approximates ages of all children please.

The photograph was taken the British Colony of India, probably in the West Bengal area near Kharagphur or in Bangalore.

Please do not restore photograph, but any help with identifying year and ages of children, would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

This could have been taken anytime from around WW1 & into the early 20's.
The ages range from a few months up to late teens & pretty much everything in between.

Hi Jim,

Thank you for all of your help, as it is definitely appreciated.

It's one of those enigmatic photographs, that no one in the extended family can identify of who is who. All they know is the surname of the two eldest boys, but that is all they have.

From my own researching looking through old photographs sent to me, the baby could be Charlotte, as she was born in 1899. Your estimate appears to be on the money, as the boys could be James and George, as they were born between 1884-1888. They had a brother Ernest, but research tonight revealed he passed away in 1908.

Kind regards

Hi Jim,

Thanks again for your valuable assistance, as I am now looking at the next generation.

If the girl in the sailor outfit is who I think she is, she was born in 1911, looks about 10-12 years old, meaning photograph taken between 1921-1923 :)

Kind regards

Hi Jim,

The girl in the sailor suit who I thought she was, would have 6 siblings. However, she is not who I thought she is, as the dates are all out.

Since then I have been shown a group Wedding photograph dated 1908, and I am coming to the conclusion, that the children in the photograph I posted, are a issue of children from that group, and are a mixture of siblings and 1st cousins.

Kind regards
