KGarrad,

Thank you for the detailed information. I see John was the nephew to Samuel WOOD and Isabella, could this be his sister Crossfield Titterington?

I have an Isabella Crossfield Titterington married to James LANGBRIDGE 1865 Hollington, Sussex

I am wrong. The Isabella above on the 1861 census can't be John's sister as she would have just been 19 yrs in 1861.

The Isabella Wood in 1871 is too old to be his sister?!
More like his Aunt - his father's sister? Or his mother's sister?

Anyhow, back to censuses!

Yes, his Aunt, very likely his mother's sister, as she was born in Ulverston.
