« on: Wednesday 07 May 14 19:35 BST (UK) »
I am searching for the relatives of Patrick (Paddy) Jones late of 16 Levenhaugh St. Dennystown Dumbarton. On the 9th of May 1917 Patrick died from injuries received at Flanders in the great war. Before joining the Post Office Riffles2/8th City of London Regiment in Flanders He worked as a postman in Buncrana Donegal Ireland before joining to fight in world war 1. I have a memorial card in memory of Patrick which stated that he also had a brother Francis. I would like to return this same memorial card to any family member still alive Thank You

I am the great grand daughter of the William Jones described above. How do you know all of this information about him?
I am very interested in finding out more about my great grandfather and my irish roots.

Hi Erin!

Welcome to Rootschat!  ;D

I've provided links above to the first 3 sources (his memorial and the Irish Census 1901 & 1911).
The rest of the information is pretty publically available, though often through Pay.subscription sites - there are a lot of sources out there.  From that point on, it's using clues  in searches to match records for the same person!

I'm sure Advent will be delighted you have arrived - as you are just what was hoped for : a member of the family, and it was your Great Great Grandad William who we were able to get a 'lead' on in the hopes of doing just that!

Advent has probably seen your message (has been active today on RC).  My messages posted above were acknowledged by Advent in private, personal replies - but won't be able to do the same to you because you haven't posted a minimum of 3 public posts yet.

If you reply to me, here, that will be your second post.

Advent, if you post a message here, and Erin replies to that also, it will be her 3rd post.

The after that, you may communicate privately if you wish (via the private message  section of RC).

Cheers

Thank you Ambly!!
He is my great grandfather....he is my grandfathers, father. That's fun to write! haha. I have paper work about Patrick, passed from my grandfather. All we really know is he died in France from his injuries.
I am trying to get even further with this search, such as John Jones and his wife Mary.

I wish I had known all of this information when I was in Buncrana about 12 yrs. ago....hope to hear from Advent.

Thanks so much!

I just stumbled across this thread, so I registered. Patrick (Paddy) was my great uncle. Several years ago my family gave me his commemorative "death penny" and photos of him as a postman and in his service uniform. We also visited his grave at the cemetery in St Sever, France. Very moving, but wonderful to be able to tell him he's no longer alone. Now I'm wondering if other relatives visited?.

Welcome to RootsChat   ;D

If you haven't already obtained them, these are the death records of your great grandparents for information for others.

John Jones 1921  #343

Mary Jones 1914  #111
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1914/05311/4477483.pdf

Patrick was the informant for his mother's death and Ellen was the informant for her father's death.
