My grandfather Robert White sp bc 14/1/1884, parents Gordon White and Eliza Hamilton married 9/12/1870 - this is proved by birth certificate Do you have marriage certificate of Gordon White to Eliza Hamilton, this would give parents of Eliza, to ensure correct family.

Eliza Hamilton sp bc 30/6/1851 parents Barnabas Hamilton and Margaret Stevenson - this is proved by birth certificate
Barnabas Hamilton sp dc 3/2/1902 married to 1 Margaret Stevenson 2 Agnes Bell parents Robert Hamilton and Helen Dempster. lds marriage record show 22/9/1849. - This is the Barney that I posted yesterday however need to prove marriages, I found him marrying a Margaret Glass. I have found the marriage to Margaret Stevenson on FreeReg will post after this.
1861 shows they have a daughter Eliza who is 9 so that tallies with above bc.  - MC above will confirm this.
lds marriage record for Robert Hamilton and Helen Dempster 23/12/1825. -
confirmed by FreeReg yesterday.

Hi Tom,

A big thanks for taking time to help me unravel this.  I think we may have finally cracked it.

I have sp mc 9/2/1870 for Gordon and Eliza and her parents are given as Barnabas Hamilton and Margaret Stevenson.
sp mc for Barnabas, widower, parents  Robert Hamilton, Helen Dempster, and Agnes 30/11/1877.

A few minutes ago I found what I hope to be his sp bc Barney, son of Robert Hamilton and Helen Dempster, born 25/7/1827.

I think that this corroborates all previous findings or is there anything else to do before I look further back as some more names have come to light?

A trip to that neck of the woods could be interesting as the Whites came from that area too and I have done some research on them.

I only joined Rootsweb yesterday after looking at your posts.

Just wondered if you were still doing the Hamilton Tree.
I am looking into it for my cousins husband, surname Hamilton * - Born 1964.
Below are the children I have for Barnabus & Margaret Hamilton.

Margaret died shortly after the birth of Alexander after an infection after child birth.

Does all that goes before tie in with what you have found so far?  It really is a tricky business to make sure that you are on the right track as you can see from these posts.

Eliza Hamilton was my grandfather's mother and he named one of his daughters after her.

I have got back to a James Hamilton and Helen Fairbairn but am now stuck.

Sorry this is a bit of a rush but I am off on holiday soon and have a lot to do so please post anything you want to share and I can access on my ipod.

Firstly, Monica, sorry about the first name thing.

I have the certs for most of the children named and have checked details from IGI on SP and they match up with a GROS Data number.
I live in Edinburgh and am a regular visitor into Register House and have a lot to check over for this and other trees and will get the other certs then.
Hopefully I will be able to gain access to your e-mail as I draw the tree on a system called autoCAD and can send a pdf of the full family tree and some of the certs for you to look at.
I am not sure if you are going with James Hamilton & Helen Fairbairn as Robert Hamiltons parents as his death certificate names his parents as Barnabus Hamilton, Occupation-Labourer, Setonhill & Elisabeth "Agnes" Kerr.
Also Roberts birth date is incorrect.
The asterix's on the info below indicates that I hold a copy of the certificate as per the page in the Births, Deaths & Marriages books, Register House, General Register of Scotland.
